Hi everyone My turn to write this part of the blog.
So our day started at 530 in the morning again hoping for better weather than the day before......we looked outside and.....it was perfect mountain climbing weather so off we went. We headed to the train station to get the first train up there at 630, which saved us about 20 francs each, which doesnt sound like much but when it was that expensive any saving was good.
The train ride took 2 hours and consisted of two seperate trains. The scenery was amazing with perfect views of the alps and the little villages below and there plenty of swiss cows with bells on for bek to take photos of. We got there at about 830 and had a hot chocolate and coffee to warm us up, it was about 2 degrees on the way up and 0.4 at the top. We ventured out for our first taste of snow at about 9 and it wasnt as cold as we thought it would be, still not warm but the sun made it quite nice. So we made a snowman, not the best but the snow was freezing so a small one was all we could handle. After playing in the snow a bit more we went back inside to see the ice palace. It is all man made but it had some cool ice sculptures and small little passage ways to explore. After this we went back outside and hired some snow discs , for FREE, and slid down a hill a few times, it was good fun and after that we went over to go for a dog sled ride but the snow was to soft for them to run in as it was dangerous for the dogs so we just patted them and got some photos, they were very friendly.
It was now perfect weather and the views of the alps were even better so we took plenty of photos and then got the train back down the mountain. We arrived back at about 130 in the arvo and had to rush back to the hostel to pick up our bags and then hurry back to the station, with our very heavy packs, and catch the 230 train to Lucerne. The ride was only 2 and a half hours but it was soooo hot on the train and it stopped every few minutes so it felt like it took forever, but we had great views of the lakes on the way and the little towns surrounding them, we think they were much prettier than lake Lucerne but thats just us.
We got there at around 5 and had to trek to our hostel from the station, but the hostel was very nice, we have our own room with views of the lake and plenty of space for bek to spread all her belongings over. We went to the shops to get some ingredients to make our dinner as we were pretty keen to save some money after Jungfrau, and after dinner we went to bed, very tired!
We slept in pretty late this morning and then went for a walk over the chapel bridge which is a big wooden bridge over the river that burnt down in 1993 but was fully rebiult in the same style. This bridge took us to the old town and from there we went to the Lion monument which is a big dying lion carved into the rock by a soldier to comemorate other swiss soldiers who had died, it was carved in the 1800s and was quite impressive.
After this we had our lunch on the river and came back to the hostel for a rest and back to the shops for another cheap dinner.
Off to bed soon and up in the morning to get the bus to Munich so we will be in touch soon.
Love Mike and Bek.
