Hi Everyone,
Bek here its my turn to write the blog. im on one of those computers that takes five minutes to catch up with whatever i have typed so you will have to excuse any errors.
Well we arrived in Switzerland after an 11 hour bus ride from Nice. We managed to stop off at a french perfumery on the way which I got to buy some nice french perfume oo la la.
We arrived at about 7pm to our camping ground. Picture...birds chirping (the sun doesnt go down in europe until quite late).. the sound of a waterfall...and cows mooing with their big bells ringing in the distance. This place was picture perfect. It made me want to yodel.
After settling into our cabin we made our way to the restaurant to try some tradional swiss cuisine. Rosti...It consists of grated potato, bacon, onion (mike left this part out to the swiss misses disgust) and a fried egg on top. Mike thought he hit the jackpot..this was his kind of meal. It needed to be for the price we paid..18 francs which is equivalent to aussie dollars but that much for a plate of starch?
Anyway it was after our dinner that we found out that we were supposed to buy our sheets from reception..but reception had already closed so we spent the night sleeping in two sets of clothes...but hey.. we saved ourselves 10 francs..
The next day we rose once again to the sounds of birds chirping and the cows mooing on the hills. We realised that in a matter of weeks we would be woken by alarms so we enjoyed the serenity...ah the serenity. After a quick breakfast of coco pops and special k (with the best yoghurt in the world) we set off to explore the cute little village of Lauterbrunnen..it takes only 10 minutes to walk the village street and every store sold swiss army knives...Mike had to stop and look at every kind. He thought he was mcGyver in the making with all the gadgets he could possibly use. We managed to find a internet spot and got some photos sent to us from mum and dad of the house renovations , photos of their cruise and of course our favourite dog roxy. So that was really nice.
We also checked the live tv of what Jungfrau looked like. Jungfrau is the top of Europe and where we planned on visiting the next day.
After this we paid a whopping 13 francs to travel a whopping 3 minutes on the bus (this was a stupid mistake) but anyway we caught a bus to Trummelbach falls which is a cave with giant waterfalls with 20,000 litres of water flowing every second. It was really cool and wet but amazing to see . The photos will not do it justice. After this we had a picnic in the shade next to a stream with the SWISS ALPS in the background oh what a life.
After our picnic we walked back into town and passed farmers working in their fields, cows mooing of course and the cutest little swiss houses ever. We then walked up the giant waterfall at our campsite. the idea was that we walk under the falls but since the winds changed....we just walked up a giant mountain to have some average views..oh well it was a good work out.
Since we were trying to save some money in Lauterbrunnen we got some frozen lasagne from the market and made a dinner at the camping grounds and had an early night as we were going up the jungfrau the next morning nice and early.
During the night a giant rain storm hit the village and when we got up at 5.30am we looked out the window we decided that we would not be climbing up the mountain that day as we had been told that if you look up and cant see the top of the alps then dont bother going because you wont even be able to see your hand in front of your face at the top. so we went back to bed quite disapointed . When we woke up a few hours later it was like we had woken to a brand new day..the weather was perfect. Its amazing how quickly the weather can move in europe. We were really upset to say the least as we were looking forward to playing in the snow as Mike had not seen it before. We tried to lift our spirits and went for another walk into town and had a lovely picnic on the water until it decided to rain again. We went back to our cabin and decided that we couldnt leave Switzerland without playing in the snow. So we put our heads together and planned out how we could fit in a visit up the alps without stuffing up our future plans. With a quick cancelation of our bus the next morning and a run up to the train station to buy our tickets we were set to climb the mountain the next day. fingers crossed the weather would change as this was going to be an expensive adventure to say the least. For our last night in Lauterbrunnen we decided to go out for some cheese fondue. Our restaurant was really pretty with amazing views of the snow capped alps in the distanccece. Since Mikes fondue was only for one I sampled some of his and teh friendly waiter didnt even charge me for it..usually they do if you share. That evening off to bed again nice and early for one last attempt at Jungfrau...Mike will write next...did we make it or not...ooohh the suspence is killing you right?
I'm also adding a section called ten things you didnt know about Mike and Bekuntil now.
1. Mike enjoys counting the coins from different countries. HE really should have been an accountaint with how strict he is with our budgeting. He is also the best at converting. This is something Bek is not allowed to do.
2. Mike is allergic to dust and pollen and annoys Bek with all his sneezing.
3. Bek is allergic to the sun and therefore is in constant fear of attacks of hives..this annoys Mike too. She is also allergic to white bread...it gives her gas...like her mother hehehe
4. Bek hates having dirty feet. That is why we constantly have to buy baby wipes. She also hates having foreight fluffy blankets touch her in the hostels.
5.Mike is always the first to pack, Bek spreads her things across the entiore room then begs Mike to help her pack at the last minute...yes we know you will be suprised Vicki...mum you wont be suprised.
6.Mike is grumpy in the mornings and is not looking forward to joining "the real world" ass Vicki (his mum) would put it.
7. Bek and Mike are already planning their next holiday...Canada, New Zealand or Australia?
8. Mike doesnt like to be clean, he makes a habit of leaving the shower gel in the bathroom every three weeks or so..total expenditure..20 euro.
9. Bek has sampled over 15 flavours of gelati in Italy and plans on continuing this habit on her return to OZ.
10. Both Bek and Mike will be applying for the Biggest Loser 2009 ...no more gelati :(
