hi everyone writing the blog for nice today.
First things first, Nice, not very nice!
We arrived at about 7 in the evening after leaving our favourite place we have been to so far, Cinque Terre, so anything after that was never going to be as nice and it definately wasnt. First of all we had booked another hostel because we had heard that the busabout one was pretty crappy so we arrived to find out that it was infact the same hostel but with a different entrance. They had double booked our room and in true french hospitality said too bad you leave now, not likely, so we had a bit of an argument and finally got a four bed dorm and it was the smallest, smelliest room we have stayed in so that was a great start to coming back to france. We went for a wander around and had some dinner with the other busabout people and then walked down to the waterfront and tried to get into the casino but a few of us had board shorts on so we were denied. We walked around a few pedestrian streets and had a look at the markets and got some gelati, no comparison to italian gelati! We also watched some rather amusing breakdancers in the square who were probably the worst we have ever seen, but still good for a laugh. We went back to our hostel and had the worst sleep ever, because it was so hot we had the window open and i got eaten alive by mossies, and intern kept bek up all night with my scratching.
We got up early the next day and cancelled our last 2 nights in the hostel and moved next door to our own room and bathroom for a bit more a night but definately well worth it. we had a little siesta in the arvo and went for a look around at the shops on the main street in search of some clothes for bek for thailand but didnt find any so we headed back and met the others for a few drinks and we all got the train to Monaco. It was quite an impressive place, we strolled along the harbour after passing an insane amount of Ferraris, lambourginis, maseratis and other stupidly priced cars, to see boats twice the size of our houses all with the crew preparing the decks for the owners to come and sit and eat on, very jealous. Bek and i had a little picnic on our own and bek had her first taste of frois gras which is some gross pate thiong that smelled like cat food and she didnt even really like it, but it was quite expensive so she ate as much as she could. We walked up to the Monte Carlo casino afterwards and again no deal, i was wearing shoes and everything, but was the shorts again that didnt cut it, we didnt quite fit in anyway with the ferraris and such outside, so we headed back to the train station and found the others there. We all went back and had a few drinks and went to bed.
The next day we slept quite late and went on the net in the early arvo, Bek wrote the blog for Cinque and i listened to the footy over the net, pretty dissapointing but sounded promising at stages, but i was just happy to be able to at least listen to it! We met up with the others later and had a few drinks and some lovely kebabs for dinner and we walked down to the casino from the first night.......this time we got in, and were out after about 20 minutes having lost 10 euros so we wandered back up towards the square and watched some more street performers and had another kebab before bed time which was a little too late but we had some farewell drinks with Bry and Chris and a few other who were off on the western loop the next day to spain for the running of the bulls.
We were up at 730 the next morning to get on the bus for an 11 hour ride to switzerland, but you will have to wait a few days to hear about that one.
So thanks everyone for the messages and emails, its nice to know people are actually reading our blogs and we are always exited to hear about news from home.
Love Mike and Bek
