For some reason I woke at 2am with an epiphany of how to make the Bluetooth work in the car. This was followed by spending 5 minutes trying to train the curtains do their job better, blocking the light from outside spilling onto my pillow so I could get back to sleep.
Tea in bed was a luxurious start to the day but the bacon was soon under the grill and the eggs scrambling. Bec and I experimented with the local coffee and we were all checked out by 11am, sad to leave our cosy cottage.
We headed out to join the army of Far East tourists checking out the vista of the 3 sisters and then headed on to Blackheath for the walk of the day. My 2am epiphany meant that we had music for the journey but it wasn't long before we were looking out other the blue haze of the seemingly limitless eucalyptus bush filled valley. We descended into the 'grand canyon' through a rather ominous chain link door in a Jurassic park style perimeter fence. Expecting to see dinosaurs around the next corner we dropped down the stone steps to the floor of the canyon passing under huge rock ledges and between towering trees to where a small stream wiggled its way through the boulders. We followed the chasm through prehistoric feeling bush but instead of dinosaurs we only saw a few bright orange crayfish at the bottom of the pools created by the stream.
Luke gave Bob her first Cherry (T)ripe bar and she accelerated away, scaling the rock steps, scrambling under the ledges and behind a waterfall before we finally topped out near the car sweating profusely.
We ate our sandwiches and headed back towards Sydney, being fooled only briefly by the hunt for the fuel filler cap and thoroughly entertained by Luke's irrational hatred of orange cars. We unloaded the car and returned it to its parking spot as the sky darkened and the wind began to batter the trees, there was a storm on the way.
We spent a relaxed and cosy evening writing postcards, reading and planning. Bec made an amazing creamy chorizo tagliatelle which I am definitely going to attempt to recreate back in the UK and before we knew it it was time for bed. An excellent weekend all round.
