During the night I stubbed my toe on my way to the bathroom and it split right down to the base. With my sleepy logic in place I then set about removing said nail in its entirety rather than have it lingering as an ongoing issue. My makeshift bandage did an excellent job overnight but Bob did question why I was wearing one sock in bed...
We started the day with breakfast smoothies and banana pancakes with maple syrup, setting us up perfectly for our drive out to the Blue Mountains. Luke and I headed off to pick up the car and we were soon loaded up and heading out of town.
As I completely failed to get the Bluetooth working we indulged in the lost art of conversation which included observational humour, talking in inhalational Mongol and an in depth hunt for some road food. McDonalds satisfied our travel-hunger pangs and we were soon pulling into Katoomba. We dropped our stuff off at the cute little cottage and headed straight out to Wentworth Falls.
We walked from the car and immediately the view was awesome. We were positioned on top of a huge mass of rock looking out over thousands of acres of bush with equally dominating pillars of rock rising in lines into the distance. We walked past numerous viewing platforms before crossing a small river which went on to throw its water off a 100m drop into the bush below. We manoeuvred our way down steep, rough hewn steps into the gorge and ended up looking up at the curtain of water which we had crossed not twenty minutes previously. It was truly spectacular.
We returned to the car and headed back to the cottage to prepare a sumptuous feast and snuggle down in front of the wood burner. Whilst I butterflied a leg of lamb, Luke lit the fire and constructed crusty olive bread nibbles and drinks whilst Bob experimented with the jacuzzi bath. We were soon spread around the living room of the cosy cottage, lounging in the flickering glow of the fire reading our books.
The lamb started off in the oven before heading outside for ten minutes of flame grilling on the BBQ in the pouring rain, in which time the tiny circular table was laid and the greens served up. The lamb arrived at the table and everybody carved their own off the board in between mouthfuls of the Tasmanian Pinot noir and conversation bounced between our future plans and teenage fashion faux pas!
We polished off the entire leg and 2 bottles of wine which left us sitting at the table almost uncomfortably full but very satisfied. Pudding was caramel magnums by the fire and Bob won a free icecream. Once the excitement had died down we were coached through a much anticipated and successful game of 'Pandemic' before snuggling into our bijoux rooms and getting lost in the multitude of pillows.
