Hi all,
We arrived in Brisbane and made our way to the Brisbane City Backpackers were we checked in. Once we had settled in it was straight to the bar to grab a pint. Stupidly missing happy hour by about a minute, thanks goes to the bar tender for informing me!! We ended up staying the for the rest of the night and enjoying the delights of the BBQ....
The following day we headed into the city to see what it was like. Brisbane is a really nice place and it was nice to be back in a built up city again, surprisingly! After sorting out stuff and Becki visiting nearly every hairdressers in town (to consider dying her hair brown! boring) we headed over the bridge to have a look around the south bank, a posh part of town. Or so it seemed. The market was really cool and there was a quality fake beach and a lagoon and hundreds of plush cafes, bars and restaurants. We ended up going to the cinema to watch James Bond. It was a amazing flick and we watched it on (apparently) the largest imax screen in the world.
The next day we decided to start the Boomerang designing workshop that we were given as part of booking trips through tribal travel. We were greeted by a complete nutcase!! Christ knows what plant he was from but it wasn't the one I am currently on. The workshop was interesting to say the least. It was like a cross between the telly tubbies house and a cellor. There was colour paint all over the walls with all the names of the poeple that had been to the workshop with their hand print on. The aboriginal bloke (the name escapes me) was making the strangest noises I had every heard just randomly! It was made me feel a bit uneasy as he was behaving like a crazy man - I was starting to think that he was insane to be honest. Anyway, it wasn't long before he then admitted that he was drunk! Now there's a surprise. We started with the base coat and planning out what design I was going to put on my boomerang. It was soon time for the workshop to close and probably time for the Abo to go down the pub.
The next morning, after having a disturbed nights sleep - rude French people in our dorm decided to come in at 3.30am, turn the lights on and start talking, full volume, whilst we were sleeping. Again! We got up early and made our way back into town to have a look around more shops and then went back to the Abo Workshop to complete the boomerangs. Four hours later, paint everywhere, hands covered in varnish etc etc, they were done - and didn't look bad at all, even if I do say so myself! If I'd had more time and a lot more money, I would have had a stab at painting a didgeridoo - but the shipping costs were out of the question. So....off we went.
Earlier in the day, we'd bumped into some other girls we met in Airlie and they had told us about the movie, 'Borat'. With Áli G' (Sacha Bowen...something). As it was still cheap at the cinema and the only alternative was to go and drink jugs of beer (!!) which would have cost a lot more, we took our second trip to the cinema in as many days and went and watched the cringeworthy film that is 'Borat'! How the hell he got away with slating so many people, I do not know.
Again, we were woken in the night and I'm quite glad to be moving on.
Bye for now
