Miffy's Mischievous Adventures
Hi guys
From the Perhentian Island we had to stay in Kota Bharu for the evening. The next day we were up at 05:30 to catch a taxi to the train station to set off for Jarantut. On the platform we started talking to an english girl called Jessica who had been traveling for two year. The Jungle Railway, train journey was fairly enjoyable, however it seemed that we had sat on the wrong side of the train. For hours the sun was just beating through the window. I was so hot and sweating like mad. The scenery was cool, miles upon miles of green jungle, rivers and huge limestone cliffs. After 12 hours we arrived in Jarentut and it decided to last it down as soon as we stepped apon the platform - nice! Due to this we had to get a taxi to a small village were we were going to stay which is across the river from the Taman Negara National Park. We got chatting to Jessica and shared a taxi with her and her friend Amy.
An hour later was were in ...... ..... (can't remember the name of the small village) and the journey was funny. It was really nice to spend some time with sarcastic english girls - they were great. We were looking for a hostel to stay in with was a bit difficult as it is a two week school holiday in Malaysia and Singapore so all the accommodation was nearly all taken. We ended up it a four persons dorm room together.
The next day we headed for the National Park and the Canopy Walk. On the way Jessica and I discovered a cool snake that had a blue body and aluminous red head and tail. There was a small wait for the canopy walk but it was well worth it. Walking through the canopies was excellent and you were so high up. It was very much like Go Ape but there was a lot more Rain Forest around. After the Canopy walk we set off on a trek by ourselves which was good. Hard work but anything you do in the jungle seems to be hard work! It is so humid and hot and you lose so much fluid it is untrue and the leeches were out it force today. Luckily I escaped leech free this time but others weren't as lucky. When we had completed the trek I noticed that Amy had a stain on the back of her trousers (pants if you are northern). Needless to say it was blood and she had also been attacked on her foot too. Please see pictures (when I can upload them). In the evening I managed to catch the England and Jamaca game. What is the Crouch celebration all about? But I like it... Oh I like it
We decided to do a cave exploration and a night safari the next day as Cyrina and I were unable to do the two day and one night trek in the jungle. You need four people to go so the price isn't extortionate and there wasn't anyone to go. This was a shame as we would of had to sleep in a cave. As we now had changed our plans, Jessica and Amy decided to stay another day and join us on the cave exploration and the night safari. This was good as I enjoyed there company.
The cave exploration was brilliant. It was so dark, small and clostaphobic. You really had to crawl and squeeze through tiny gaps. The insect bats were everywhere and really cute. Bat poo was everywhere too, which explained the funny smell. The guide would make this noise and loads of the would fly all around you but never hit you.
The night safari was good too. We had a few issues with the original vehicle but it all got sorted in the end to my amazement. We were taken into the jungle and through a rubber plantation to try and find animals. In the end we spotted a leopard cat, two small snakes, water buffalo, several small birds, a kingfisher and owls. It was a really relaxing experience that I enjoyed. We arrived back at 12.15 so it was straight to bed as we were up early to catch two local buses. The first one to Jarentut and the second to Kuala Lumpur.
