Cool start to the day at 12 degrees. Yvonne wanted to go jet boating and we managed to find a trip on the River Clutha near Lawrence. On the way we stopped at Lawrence for a coffee. When I tried to pay, I discovered that I'd put Euro's in my pocket and not dollars, sigh.
The jet boat was fabulous. It was a small boat that held the driver and eight passengers, so the six of us had it to ourselves. We went about 10
kilometres up the river to a gold mining barge. On the way back we stopped and spoke to a gold miner, who showed us some gold in his pan. The driver also pulled four 360 degree turns in the boat. Despite the protective coat and life jacket provided, I got soaked! We had a great time on the river, which is the fastest flowing in New Zealand.
After that we drove to Roxburgh for a pie lunch at an award winning pie shop, before heading off to look at Lake Roxburgh, which is on the Clutha and created by a dam that we drove over. We had a quick drive through Dunedin where Chris, our driver picked up some postcards for us. Whilst parking the van, he hit his son's new car! Then it was back to the ship. The weather inland was much warmer than the coast. Yet another great port day.
Back on board, the ship was in norovirus lockdown. Obviously the new arrivals in Sydney aren't as hygiene conscious as those of us who have been on board a while. He also said that visibility in Akaroa hasn't been too good today and that may affect us tomorrow as its another tender port.
We won the Syndicate Quiz tonight, so that's bottle 33 and this sectors formal nights sorted.
