Yesterday, the Captain told us it would be around 36 today, according to the Bridge Information Channel, it was 28 at 03:30! Arrived around 05:00 and this was one of our few early starts on this cruise.
Alison from Cruise Critic had organised a small group tour and 10 of us (including Rob as Barbara chickened out) were on it. We were picked up at the end of the dock and taken to a place where Capuchin monkeys are found, unfortunately wildlife doesn't always do what we want and we never saw any. Then we went to a garden by someone's house and tried different fruits. We had cashew, both nuts and fruit. I never knew cashew nuts grow first and the fruit follows. We also had something called Nona (?) which smells of blue cheese and tastes revolting and mango. We were shown different types of leaves that are medicinal.
Lunch followed, which consisted of sea bass and various salads and soursop to drink. We then went to a beach and saw a pair of scarlet macaws in a tree. On to the Tarcoles River, where we had a boat ride. There were lots of crocodiles in the water. The first two we saw (Monica Lewinsky and J-Lo) were fed fish by our boat driver. The noise they made when their jaws closed was scary. Further along the river were more crocodiles and an iguana. There were lots of egrets, ibises, storks, frigate birds and many others types of bird life.
Alison, Bob, Rob and I then went zip lining whilst the rest went on an aerial tram ride. The four of us plus about a dozen Americans (including four young boys, one of whom really didn't want to do it),were taken in a trailer pulled by a tractor up a steep, very dusty track. At the top we were given instructions and then we travelled down 12 different lines. One (number 6), we were allowed to do upside down. I did. Some we were told to not use the brake (our gloved hands!) and others we were allowed to.
A really good, hot, dusty day and the shower back on board was soooooo good! We should've taken part in the Syndicate Quiz tonight as we won last night, instead we went to the Mexican Tropical Party (yes I know we're in Costa Rican waters) and we had a great time. They usually dole out leis, today, for some reason, some of us got straw hats too.
