Not Barbuda, Antigua! The blogging app strikes again! We arrived at 08:00 to cloudy skies and high twenties. Maasdam was moored next to us. Antigua was the first Caribbean island I ever visited, way back in the 80's. This is our penultimate port.
We all went different ways, Rob golfed, Phil helicoptered, Barbara and Lin went to Nelson's Dockyard and Yvonne and I went swimming with stingrays.
It was excellent. We drove out to the other side of the island, past the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium, where England and the West Indies had just begun day one of the first test. Then we were given a brief lesson on how to behave with rays and hopped on to a boat for a fast ride to a pontoon. As soon as we arrived we could see the rays. We jumped off the boat and into the water. Then we shuffled out (you have to shuffle, not walk) and they were all around us. We were given squid to feed them and it was like feeding a vacuum cleaner! I held one up. They are very soft underneath and very heavy too. We snorkled and saw sergeant major fish and a barracuda. I picked up a sea cucumber. Then it was back to the shore and strong rum punches.
After a quick shower on board we joined Phil, left the ship and had a quick bite before mooching around the town. Back on board it was the Great British Sailaway, which is always fun, although the World War songs are a bit much.
Today's pub quiz was a real mish mash, kudos to James for trying something different, but it was too complicated and too long. I noticed the roof over the Crystal Pool is closed, so the weather is obviously going to get a lot cooler by the time we reach our final port in the Azores.
Another good port day.
