So today woke up around 10:00am and realised we had arranged to meet our friend mai at 10!! Went to go find her and she gave us a few different maps of the island. I decided I didn't want to do the tour of the island that 'arm' was talking us into doing for £12 which took 6 hours around the island in a minibus with other tourists!
So instead, we hired mopeds for the day!!! Can you imagine me, the guy who failed his driving test like 4 times in England, riding a bike on my own through the mountains here at 60mph!!! It was so cool it cost like £3 for two hours which we paid up front then If you run over its an extra £1 an hour! Bargain! And the petrol we filled up three times costing £2.60!
I expected to have to sit through a safety lesson or to have some of practice but no, once he had our money that was it, off you trot! :/ I didn't even know how to start the stupid thing up! As soon as I got it started up, one slight pull, and I was off, I shot across the street and nearly into someone's shop window!!! Not a great start :/
So we went off through the town quite slowly, it's a single lane and people just walk right in front you, so you've gotta be on the ball! All the time I was just thinking oh my, my insurance Wont cover this if I fall and loose a limb!
About ten minutes through the town, we got to the hills! Oh my actual god I thought I was gonna die, the slopes are so steep and narrow, people drive in the middle of the road and don't give you clearance until the last minute! They speed up around corners, and they overtake you from all directions! The hardest part was coming down the first hill whilst turning a corner, how the hell do you do that. With no gas I was doing 40mph on a downhill slope heading straight for the sea cliff! And I daren't use the brakes too much invade it wore them out for if/when I might actually need them! I'm actually shocked that I'm still alive after the experience in one piece!
So after the up and down roller coaster ride that is Phangan, I pulled up for a break to find annie! She was well behind, so many people had already overtaken me I didn't think she'd get past the first dip! So after 15/20minutes of wacky races, the road got clearer and wider and then all is pretty flat from there... Thank god!
We were on the bikes for hours, were staying at Haadrin beach which is right at the very bottom point of the island and we drove all the way up north to 'paradise waterfall' it should have taken 40/50 minutes... It took us two hours! But we did stop at one water fall on the way which was a pathetic excuse, it was nothing more than a few rocks with a bit of green slimy water trickling over the top! Let down :/ but there was an elephant there too and a ting little monkey which smiled at me!!! It was like it had veneers!! Well jel! :D
And 'paradise waterfall' wasn't even there! It had dried out! People seriously make things sound more epic than what they really are, it was a mud track up to a small dirty river and grass fields! No way am I going in grass fields in Thailand in flip flops! The grass snakes are poisonous!! And I like having to legs to walk with thank you...
Later it started to rain but we carried on biking through it, it made it do hard to see where your going though as our helmets didn't have visors! So you get all sorts of bugs and dust in your eyes! We then had dinner in a street corner restaurant, pad Thai and two cups of Thai tea, the tea here is amazing, never thought I could enjoy tea without milk before! And then began the journey back, stopping at temples on the way...
One temple we went to, the monk invited us in and sat us on cushions on the floor. We had to each light two candles then light incense sticks then bow down in front of the Buddha three times. All the while I'm thinking should I really be here if I've been christened? :/ I don't think soooo.... Oops! Then he gave me a cotton bracelet and tied around my wrist and it was as if he blessed it or something? He held it firmly, closed his eyes and starting preying! When we asked him what it was for, a blessing or what? He didn't understand any English! We left a donation of 20baht and then he made us two drinks each, a grape juice which was nice and then water. Half way through drinking the water annie turned to me and told me it was tap water! I nearly spat it out across the temple floor... I don't want rabies! But it's rude to not accept so I had to finish it!!! Bleugh!!!! :/
It's so funny instead of saying oh my god Thais say oh my Buddha! It's cute!
That night we met our friends Clare and Kat who we met in chiang mai, they wanted to see what our beach was like, so we had a bucket of vodka redbull with them, Mai Thai wasn't on the menu :( then they told us about a water fall party that was happening later so we ended up going there at midnight...
Another taxi ride there over the stupid up and down roads and then a track through the forest and we were there! The dance floor is all uv so we had uv body paint done! You have to scrub to get it off and it gets messy! At the party we met Lauren aka Iiona and Amy aka kingha, aka snooki (don't ask) and had a blast! There both jersey girls so enough said! Haha
Everyone there was either foreign, off their faces on drugs or total drunken w****s.. And then there was our group, we made our own fun! After however many hours we got the taxi back to Haadrin went to eat then all the lightweights went home, darl 6am? Please! You know what me and annie are like so we walked along the beach until we saw the first group if people that spoke English and tagged along with them! We all just chilled on the beach and watched the sunrise (no photos as clearly my phone was dead by this point)! And then in the morning when people started getting up, we casually went to bed... Maybe the red bull bucket was too much? Why the hell not!!!
