THE GLORY OF ROME
Whoa, epic day of being Roman. Today we saw the most amount of old stuff for the whole trip. Old crap in Rome is totally awesome, cos it means ancient ruins and Gladiator-related grouse-ness, as well as monuments named after me and the missus (Arch of Constantine - that's right, where's your monument?).
We started off in a different country - Vatican City - for a short guided tour, which was awesome. Heaps of unbelievable artwork that was centuries old and partly created by some of the original Ninja Turtles (well before the TMNT remake).
Following this we went on a trek through the ruins of ancient Rome including Palatine Hill and the old stadium there.
Later, we visited Russell's battle-house, the ultimate historical site for sports fans, the Colosseum. It was hugely epic, and consistent with the scenes where Croweater smashes a bunch of pretenders before being stabbed in the back by Joaquin Pheonix (check spelling here).
We finished the day with a few drinks and a meal at an Irish pub near the Colosseum, and I also bought a sticker. It's a pretty good sticker considering it took ages to find any stickers at all.
We're off to Venice in the morning, where I plan to navigate the catacombs and retrace the steps of Indiana Jones beneath the library (on the road to the holy grail). I really should have purchased his hat when we were at Disneyland. For the record I reckon if Indiana Jones and Maximus were alive during the same time period they probably would have been mates.
