After spending 2015 working, Julie and I flew back to Melbourne to spend Christmas with family and to be reunited with our faithful bike. It felt wonderful getting back on our old steed, the bike that has taken us through so many memorable countries and places, it was just unfortunate we were riding in so much traffic in inner city Melbourne, it was no fun at all! On Boxing Day we headed out of the city and into the country to visit friends, this was more like we were used to, but being Melbourne we had to ride for two hours in the rain!
Christmas with family was enjoyable of coarse and something we hadn't done for sometime.
Once Christmas was over we headed out of Melbourne towards SA, this time following the coast as much as possible, we hadn't done the famous Great Ocean Road for well over thirty years and we were really looking forward to seeing this part of Victoria. On Christmas Day though there was a bush fire near Lorne which was still unsafe when we were heading down that way, so we were forced to miss this part and start at Skene River.
Parts of the Great Ocean Road were packed with tourists, the likes of we hadn't seen in ages. For us though it brought back memories of being amongst non English speaking people and being some sort of a celebrity, at one place we had a couple of Indian fellows want their photos taken with us and the bike, all good fun, and why we enjoy our travels so much.
