Mich Goes Walk About
I have teamed up with a guy from Holland and a girl from France. After spending two days in Krabi, which was totally desserted, which took a bit of getting used to. You expect on the beaches, but not in a city. We have spent the last two days on Kho Lanta. An Island south from Krabi. It was hit pretty badly by the Tsunami and ferries carrying tourists have only been really going for the last week, as there wasn't any demand for them. Nothing prepared me for the sights over there, everything apart from a few guesthouses that were rebuilt quickly, is still pretty much destroyed. The road in places has literally been up rooted, and right by we are staying hugh trees still lie up rooted in the sand. But we got a really really warm welcome from the owners of the guesthouse, the whole family came to meet us and the owner thanked us for coming, as without tourists coming they can't live. Despite the bad conditions surrounding us, the bungalows are good and clean (well they are new) the views are amazing, the beach is the best one I've been on and the owners have made me feel like a prodigal daughter returning. The best atmosphere I've come across. So if any of you are looking for a good place for your hols this year, don't rule out the Thai islands effected by the Tsunami, as bringing your British selves over here and spending your money in the local economy is really the only way you can help the local survivors!
