A trip to Margret Island is highly recommended, in fact its a must see place. We spent hours walking around, but also you can hire bikes (both pedal and electrically powered) or golf types carts. We went for the 4 seater pedal bikes - 4000HUF for 2 hours (about £10) and it was good value. Bikes etc are all readily available at the bottom of the hill off Margret Bridge, there are quite a few options depending on how energetic you feel.
As for the island itself, there is loads to see. The rose garden was lovely, and there are dozens of monuments and ruins etc to look over. It's easy to spend a couple of hours there, walking around, pedalling around and we managed to see everything we wanted to (just about) in our time there.
The rose garden as I said was a highlight for me, as was the old and ruined convent, but really there was so much to see and do on the island, you could easily spend a whole day here. Advertised here also is an outdoor swimming pool, I'm not sure it was open when we were there - even if it was, it looked a bit old and dated, not particularly clean or modern. A couple of days after our trip to the island, we walked by the banks of the Danube and noticed the island isn't well lit at nights, in fact it looks a little bit dodgy - I'm sure its not, I'm sure its as pretty and nice as it is in the day time, but I just didn't look it from a distance.
Oh they have a musical water fountain performance on the hour every hour - it's the fountain at the Margret Bridge end and NOT the far end - we know that now !
