MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
Helsinki Finland. We have a 3 hour tour booked this morning which will give us an over view of the city. We stop at Senate Square and the Lutheran Church, the Olympic Stadium used in the 1952 summer Olympics and Sibelius Park. We take a walk up to the Rock Church which has been built into the bedrock and using the quarried stones. It's a very interesting structure with amazing acoustics. We end our tour in the city. Unfortunately our guide today was not as informative as you would hope and so we did not get a lot of information about Helsinki and Finland but we are already drowning in history so it's ok. We head back to the Market Square to have lunch. It's an open air fresh food market with stalls selling fruits and vegetables as well as places to eat and other stalls selling locally made goods. We share a ham, cheese and pineapple crepe and its is yum. It's such a gorgeous day, we decide to walk the 5 or so kms back to the ship. The walk follows the coast around to the port. Being the summer break here many people are on holidays and are relaxing near the water. It's a lovely easy walk and even with a refreshment stop at one of the bars along the way we are back at the ship by 3pm. Plenty of time for relaxing on a sun lounge on an upper deck before dinner and the 10pm show. The food on the ship is varied and delicious. Glenn tried Quail tonight. Not much meat on a quail drumstick! Sweden tomorrow.
