Fantastically sleepless night on the misleadingly named 'sleeper bus' from Jaisalmer. Did arrive at our hotel at a great time to watch the sunrise over our first view of Udaipur and its famous Lake Palace, though...which very nearly made up for it.
Udaipur is a lovely city for wondering around; very relaxed and beautiful. We stumbled upon a fantastic celebration of Holi in the city's Jagdish Temple, whereby everbody (including myself...although Matt mysteriously managed to escape...) ended up absolutely covered in coloured powder. An old lady smeared some on my face. I said thankyou, which she seemed to find very funny. I think she was happy because she understood; and kept repeating it to all of her friends! It was an absolutely wonderful event to witness; so joyous and full of life. There were no other tourists around either; we just sank into a shadow and watched in complete amazement (until the old woman with the red powder found me). I did however, have to retire to bed for the rest of the afternoon with a splitting headache caused by extreme bell ringing throughout the proceedings. They sure do like their bells, so it would seem.
Amused by the many advertisements for viewings of 'Octop**** #39; in various rooftop restaurants (all at 7pm, sharp); we decided it was an absolute must for an evenings entertainment. It was very surreal watching a Bond Movie set amongst the very backdrop that we could see from the rooftop we were sitting on. Such a hilariously bad film! 'That's my little Octop**** #39;. I bet it is.
Took a pedalo out onto the Lake on our final evening for some adrenalin pumping water sport. Well, very nearly. What a beautiful city it is.
