"I lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth" Ps 121:1,2
This verse kept going through my mind today, as we saw the beauty of God's creation.
Today we fulfilled a long dream of mine...to go 4 wheel driving in the Colorado Rockies near Ouray Colorado. My Dad took our family several times to this area when I was a kid. He would take us in a rented Jeep to go explore the mountain passes, enjoying the thrill of exploring old mines and ghost towns, nestled deep in the mountains. This is what I wanted to do, but unfortunately, there was too much snow, and all of the passes were closed.
We rented a Jeep anyway and made our way from Durango up through Siverton, and down into Ouray on what is called "the Million Dollar Highway", due to the incredible views and and gorgeous scenery. We did encounter alot of snow, but thankfully, we were also able to find a few trails that were not closed. We even found an old abandond mine and mill. The kids were thrilled to find some rocks that had some gold and silver flake in them.
I can't describe enough (and photos don't do it justice), as to how beautiful these mountains really are. They are simply gorgeous! The area around Ouray is called "Little Switerland" because of the Alpine looking mountains.
Eventhough we were not able to go through the mountain passes, the beauty of the snow topped mountains made it worth it. All we could do was "lift our eyes to the hills"!
