After skydiving was cancelled AGAIN we fancied a drive to the top of north island some 266km away, considering we didnt set off till dinner time we arrived in good time, its the most northerly point of New Zealand and legend has it that when you die your soul travels up to the point then to spirits bay to rest, anyway to see the pacific ocean and the tasman sea join is worth the drive up, you can actually see the swell when they meet, after taking a good few pics we headed for 90 mile beach which is actually 90km, im not complaining id rather drive km than miles, this stretch is amazing just postcard beaches and bright blue sea, you have to time the tide right because its well know that the sea eats up cars when they get bogged down in the sand, i dont believe there is any recovery service so we didnt chance it we just used the highway, so after the cape we headed about 20km south (the only way really) to try us some sand surfing in a place called Te Paki, its $10 to hire boards and then your faced with a mountain of sand, you look from the bottom and see these little people flying down all angles, so ellie waited at the bottom to get me on camera, after 5-10 mins crawling to the top i finally boarded my craft then went for gold, off i went like a rocket down this sand giant reaching the bottom in about 6 seconds to fly off the end and discover the taste of sand, well i was a beginer remember, after that it got better but a few times tackling the size of this dune was tiring enough, we decided to get some fish and chips to end the day in style, we travelled to Mangonui (world famous for fish and chips) it was amazing tucca for less than $10, give it a try if your up that end, so a quality day again, maybe weather is good tomorrow for skydiving i hope, see ya.
