Independence Day. American flags everywhere and we were given USA flag bandaners which we wore most of the day. It was supposed to be America's Cup all day but due to the rain, the competition was shorten to inside activities. Sunday was the first day we had off. This included Saturday night so we went out hoping to get fairly merry as we had booked a hotel for the night so we didn't have to go back to camp for 1am. It all worked out well and we headed back to camp the next morning around 9am before starting the 2 hour journey to Old orchard beach.
It was a proper beach town, with fair ground rides and all. Being the weekend of the 4th of July it was unsurprisingly packed.
For lunch a group of us went to experience the famous Maine lobster on the pier. Honestly for the money and the effort it took to get to the meat, it wasn't worth it. During the day we had a few dips in the water but only up to knee hight as the water was seriously cold. We made our way back late afternoon via Ruby Tuesday's for some dinner. Very enjoyable first day off from camp finished off with some impressive Independence Day fireworks which were moved to Sunday.
