Cinque Terre day trip from Florence
On the 4th of September we decided to do our own day trip from Florence to the five small villages along the coast of Italy know as Cinque Terre (literally 5 towns). This meant catching the 7am train from Florence that got us into La Spezia around 10ish. Unfortunately we just missed the connecting train to the villages (due to my stupidity) which meant we then had to wait an hour for the next train. When we finally got on the train we headed to the final village Monterosso. From here we walked the coastal track to the next town Vernazza. The tracks were so cool, thin and rocky and not overly touristy, they also passed old houses and olive trees and grape vines. Vernazza itself was an amazing village right on the waters edge and we stopped here for lunch and chilled out for a bit. From there we then walked the next section to Cornigula and this was amazing as well. Unfortunately the rest of the the coastal track was closed due to a large slip so we couldn't walk to the other villages. This meant we caught the train to the next village where we had an hour before the next train. This was just enough time to have a look around the town and have a quick but amazing swim before jumping onto the train again to the last village Raggiomore. Here we had a look around and grabbed some dinner before getting on the train back to Pisa. We planned to stop in Pisa on the way back to Florence to see the leaning tower, however our train was delayed by more than half an hour and this meant that we didn't have enough time between our trains which was a bit of a shame. However the bell tower at Burano near Venice had been on a serious lean so we decided that it could be our leaning tower and we headed back to Florence happy with a long but extremely successful day. Would definitely recommend the Cinque Terre to anyone!!
