Bloody knackered. That's what I am. It's 2pm and I'm already fighting the urge to sleep for hours, hence me writing this. Gez failed in his fight, and I'm pretty sure that when I get to a computer to upload some photos you'll see proof of that!
So let's start from the beginning. Up at 4am to sort out what stuff I'm bringing with me on the trek. Out at 5am to catch a plane and being preyed upon by people at the airport "helping us with our bags" (for a less-than-modest fee). Tut. I should know better.
Gez has woken up now. Dammit...
So the flight to Lukla was an experience. A 12 seater light passenger plane was our reward for running around in chaos at the airport once it opened at 6am. Lukla airstrip is crazy: on the side of a hill, mountains all around and 50m difference from the bottom to the top of the (short) runway. Mental. Landed with a thud and a round of applause for the pilot.
Our guide is Sonam and the porter - carrying no less than 30kg of our stuff - is Prem. A few miles of undulating rocky paths later and we're in Phakding, having enjoyed some "meat fried noodles".
The teahouse we're in is pretty empty so far. This is the end of our trekking for today. Onwards to Namche Bazaar tomorrow to stay for two days. Hot showers! Sounds good to me...
9:30pm: In bed and feeling awake! Started a game of charades in the teahouse and half the room joined in. Good times. 7am start tomorrow, which is more sociable!
Oh, and Gez hasn't stopped farting all day...
