After another cold night spent wrapped up in half our clothes and about 5 blankets we woke to another blue sky and went for breakfast...We decided to go up to Macchu Picchu a bit later at about midday and stay until the last bus back, most day trippers left the ruins about 2pm so we should have the last few hrs with few people around..
We decided to take the bus up having done enough walking for both of us over the past week...the bus took 20 minutes and the first sight of Machu Picchu was quite something..just a glimpse as we went round a corner...then another at the next. I won't bore you with all the different parts of the ruins etc but it has since been made one of the new seven wonders of the world and it certainly justifies that tag.. The setting for one thing is simply jaw dropping..How they built a city on the top of the mountain is impossible to fathom..surrounded by huge mountain peaks and two valleys either side. No matter how much you looked and stared you couldn't quite get enough of it all.. We spent 5 hrs up there and both of us said we could easily go again the next day..
We returned and had the usual end of day aperitif and both agreed it was the most impressive thing we had seen..It since transpires that Hayley has already seen 6 of the 7 new 7 wonders of the world so it was nice to share at least 1 with her before she does the lot!!!
The night was as usual cold, dinner was again good and staying up at the beautiful village of Aguas Calientes was definitely the best way to see Macchu Picchu. Tomorrow we returned to Cuzco and having not done much last time we hoped to see a little more this time.
