Mexico! Very cool to be here at last! After Flagstaff, the car to New Orleans didn´t happen so we cut our losses and jumped on a bus. Well, Mexico is BIG! After 8 hours or so we were in Hermosillo, up in the north west. We spent the evening strolling around plazas and soaking up the romance, and ate out in a restaurant built in a ruin. Very nice, and so good to get into Mexican food properly!
Another long day on a bus brought us to Los Mochis. It seemed like a nice place, and again we strolled around trying to loosen up the rusty Spanish. We ate at what is apparently a hot spot for locals in a homemade taco shop - la Cabaña de Doña Chayo. Scrumtious and v cheap. The chili carrots were particularly good!
Then another bus and we decided we wanted to not be on a bus for a while! Luckily we were in the beautiful Mazatlan, a beach town. It was so good to see the sea again like an old friend, and it was really HOT! We enjoyed strolling around soaking up more romantic evening spots, mingling with the tourists and then heading back to our part of town where there weren´t any!
We chilled on beaches, saw some beach volleyball and swam in the waves lots - warmer than Caswell! Matt saw lots of big fish with big fins! We tried to go camping - we really did- but it turned out to be more hassle and more expensive than our central hotel. We will use that tent!
After 4 days we bid Mazatlan farewell and got on another extremely loooonnnngg bus to Guadalajara. It was this long - we saw 4 films about ancient egypt in a row. MUMMY!
So here we are in the beautiful Guadalajara. Cal is walking on memories (this is where she lived for 6 months) and Matt is barely walking - having a little trouble with a dicky belly! Blame the three day old ham sandwich.
Beautiful leafy squares, majestic spires, cheap food, and lovely sunny weather but a lot cooler than Mazatlan which is good because without the sea it would be overwhelming!
We´ll stay for a bit longer and sort out our bags - hopefully send some things home (Mother Edge it´s coming to your garage....you´re a gem!) because we have way too much stuff! Then we´ll head to Mexico City, but we´re coming back this way so with any luck will catch up with some old friends then.
We´re off for a taco or 5. Buenas Noches!
