The Grand Canyon. Wow. It was awesome, and the pictures don´t show the half of it!
We settled into a nice little town called Flagstaff, about an hour´s drive away from the Canyon. They had a really good hostel there that catered for many a need (even the need for mindless videos!) and ran cheap tours to the Canyon. We jumped on one of those with some other young enthusiasts and it was definitely a good way to do it. The canyon was different from every angle - the colours, the shadows, the outcrops...and after sunset it was different again. And very cold!
We were sad to find one morning that after putting our names down for a tour to a nearby town called Sedona - a local red rock beauty area- that it was cancelled. We moped around town and had to turn to buying more camping equipment and Cold Stone ice cream for solace! Mel was right about the ice cream.
We had a cool night out in a little cafe bar where a girl sang her own songs live. Made us realise we like that sort of thing and should do it more.
Sitting about later we heard some other hostelers talking about going to Sedona in a car...cheekily we spoke up and got us a ride! It was really cool, we spent the day with two Taiwanese people (Chris and Lily)and an American girl Kim who very kindly drove us around all day. It was nice to be in a group and enjoy the beatuy together. Chris and Kim turned out to be Christians too which was an added bonus!
Sedona was beautiful- the rocks were amazing. Loads of different formations with names like Coffe Pot Rock, Snoopy Rock and so on. We climbed up Cathedral Rock (Matt loved it, Cal nearly died) and drank in the views from the top. Perfect weather for it!
We were so pleased we got to see it all and finished the day tired but content!
