Our introduction to Mexico City said it all...we got off the bus after 7 hours and piled into a taxi. It took us 20 minutes or so to get to the city centre...and another 2 hours to get anywhere in the centre! In the end we gave up and walked. The traffic was so bad that we just sat still for great amounts of time. The driver did his best though - he kept his hand on the horn for almost the entire time. Very effective! At one point we were sitting in a side street with a busy market stall swirling around us. Certainly an interesting vantage point on the world!
We´ve seen lots of ruins- some electricians working under an old cathedral a hundred years ago or so discovered a huge stone disc which turned out to be the centrepiece of the Great Temple of the Mexica people, torn down by the Spanish who built their own building on top.
Due to the fact that we missed the Mariachis in Guad we made an effort to see them here, and they didnt dissapoint. After a good meal we headed out to the Mariachi plaza anad were instantly swamped by men in funny looking costume (typical attire) and carrying various instruments, we made a small donation and we´re handed Tequilla and lime and sat crowded by our very own band, very cool experience.
Today we went to Teotihuacán, the awesome remnants of a great city built around 300 AD but still in pretty good shape. It is a load of old pyramids and temples, and its cool cos you can still climb them. The day was hot but really cool, we even managed to climb to the top of one. Come on!!!
Then a small bus trip back before chilling for the night all pink and rosy, Yes I will learn (Matt)
