A bright and sunny morning at last. There is a long queue at the service point and we are behind a fastidious Frenchman with a small bore hose that takes ages to fill his tank. Just when we think he’s finished his wife passes out a dozen plastic water bottles to fill.
We’re finally on the road at 11:30, driving alongside the river and cycle route we walked back on yesterday, and past the entrance to Kinderdijk. Again it’s crowded with a rivercruiser moored nearby and tour coaches filling the bus-parking.
The dyke road is narrow with cycle lines each side meaning we can only go at a slow pace. This is good because from our raised position we have a good view of the Alblasserwaard polder and the windmills. We stop in a layby for photos a sit for a while watching around 20 pairs of geese shepherding their goslings over the waterway and through the field.
Other bits of interest as we continue include triplet lambs, more winmills and some thatchers renewing a large roof.
At Bergestoep we take a short ferry ride across the river Lek then drive the pretty route up the N207 to Gouda, passing more waterways with swans and geese.
The motorhome area in Gouda is full, but there is plenty of space for overspill in the rest of the carpark.
Our main visit will be tomorrow but Ali walks the short distance into town in the afternoon. She visits a cheese shop and the owner asks Ali where she lives. When Ali tells her Cornwall the owner says she has relatives living in Mousehole!
Motorhomes continue to pile in through the afternoon and by the time the evening turns dull and showery, there are over 60 parked here.
