Not as sunny as yesterday but no rain forecast. We also discover the Sunday bus service is no good. At 11:30 we set off down Weeke Lane again for the walk into Dartmouth and meet N+G by the park after their church service. A little way along the front is The Floating Bridge Inn where we stop and have a very good roast lunch.
Grete gets tickets for us all to go on the Paddle Steamer, Kingswear Castle. While we are waiting we plug into one of the pontoon's electricity pillars to recharge the wheelchair for its return journey.
At 15:30 we board the vessel. Built in 1924 she is the last coal fired paddler working in the UK. Nick chats with the engineer and learns the engine was built by Cox & Co, Falmouth, the original owners of the docks.
The 1-¼ hour trip takes us out through the heads to sea then back up river. The Mate give an informative and humorous commentary as we glide along with the gentle splash of the paddles below us.
It was a lovely way to see the river and with only a few passengers it was easy to move about.
N+G return to sit on the bike as we start out for the long ascent of Weeke Lane, having to pause now and then to let the chair's electrics cool down, but the extra charge did us well and soon we are back on site.
In the evening N+G give us some cider from one of the passions they used, plus a few bottles we bought in Vienna which had got buried away in their van.
