Finally we are back on our own again and staying in a Guest Lodge as opposed to a hotel for the masses. We really like the atmosphere in B&B's or Guest Lodges. Just a whole lot more relaxed!
Tomorrow we head back to Canada so this will be my last entry from South Africa (unless something happens today that I just have to get across!).
The first day here we spent exploring Table Mountain, wandering around the market streets downtown and visiting the Waterfront area.
The views from Table Mountain were absolutely amazing! This is truly a beautiful city with miles of white sandy beaches and acres of green space. The mist gave way to a lovely day which was topped off by the upscale Waterfront Development which is like Vancouver's Granville market only much bigger. Artists, music, food, atmosphere etc etc.
The next day we took our rental car down to the Cape of Good Hope. The sun shone all day which was a bonus for sure. Taking the road south past village after village and one sandy beach after another. Just breath taking! Shane started looking for real estate in a joking way. If it just wasn't so far from family! We took the hike to the point and then across to the Cape snapping picture after of picture of wildflowers, whales and rocky bluffs. Came back along the East coast where we saw penguins and more whales not far offshore.
Yesterday we made our way to the winelands for another great day. It rained but that didn't really matter as we were only there to taste new wines anyway. It did clear enough to get some good views of the vineyards and mountains behind. Very different wineries and very different wines. We both discovered Pinotage red wine which we like better than Merlot... a big switch for us. Bought a few bottles and packed them up to take home. Hopefully they don't break in the lugguage!
Today the sun is shining and Shane and I are going to spend the day enjoying the Waterfront area a bit more. We kind of rushed through it and there is just so much to see.
Will confirm flights and pack.... then find some food and enjoy a bottle of Pinotage at the end of the day.
To my friends and family.... see you soon
