Today we woke up brisk and ready for our morning walk. We set off to a popular walk of Flinders Ranges, the Arkallola Rock Walk. It was a two hour return walk and because it was hot in the arvo yesterday we thought we should get it done in the morning, being cooler and all.
So this walk was going to show us some more aboriginal rock carvings, this time a serpentine snake which represented the area around Wilpena. It was a nice morning for it but l think Meg had other ideas because within ten minutes into the walk she started sooking over every little thing. Was gonna be a long morning!!! We had to walk up some semi-steep rocky hills to start with, which l think Meg didn't like, and we were constantly surrounded by huge red colored cliffs. I would have enjoyed it more if we didn't have to put up with Meg crying and whinging. Not even an apple made her happy, or the small rock climbs!! At one point l was standing in a bull ant nest trying to calm her down when l started feeling bites, looked down to notice tens of ants crawling up my bloody legs!!! As l said, not turning out to be a good morning. Boo on the other hand was having a ball and like always the two can never be happy at the same time!
We reached the engravings in good time and they looked amazing. The symbols were clear and you could make out the symbols for the serpentine snake, kanga's and emus, etc. It was fenced off so you couldn't get too close but was still easy to view. Awesome walk, and even with Meg's behavior.... The walk only took us an hour so we were thrilled! On the way back down Marty and Boo kept finding all these small lizards sunbaking on rocks, made the trip down fun for them!
We went back to camp and had a quick bite to eat and headed off for an arvo drive to explore some more. We headed out the road and turned off onto a dirt road towards Blinman Gorge. I again thought we could do a walk. The others like usual followed reluctantly. By this stage it had started to heat up, the sun having some kick to it and we'd only made it up to 500 meters up the dry walking track to the gorge junction when l was out voted and we turned back. On the way Boo came across some old bones, one being a kangaroos head we think, and collected them with fascination. After getting back to the car we continued up the dirt road and entered the B Gorge. This was meant to be another Flinders must do, and l agree. We drove in and out if dried up river beds, through the gorge looking up at limestone rock that was said to be 400 million years old!!! Marty enjoyed the drive and do did the girls when he drove thru a puddle quickly and splashed water up over the Nissan!!! After an hour we came out the other end of the gorge and were back on bitumen. We then came across another dirt track which was the M scenic route. By this stage it was late arvo but we were all still having a great time with the beautiful surrounds we were passing thru, and of course, seeing more emu's!!! We travelled past some sheep stations and all we could think was how hard it would be to round them up....lol.
We got back late, did some more laundry and school work. Everyone was a little tired so it was to bed early. Sadly the forecast for tomorrow is showers, so fingers crossed it won't be too much rain!!!
