It took the bus 4.5 hours to get to Queenstown, but the time just flies by as the landscapes are just so diverse to look at. Upon arrival I can honestly say that Queenstown must be the most beautiful place on earth, everything is just perfect, and it has nearly any activity you can thing of on offer.
Day 1 here and I begun it by going up into the sky in a stunt plane pulling 6 G's, flying upside down doing barrel rolls and loop the loop among other things. After that had woken me up I got dropped back off at the hostel (which is to a higher standard than most hotels) before departing about 15 minutes later to go river surfing.
They took us upstream to some force 2 and 3 rapids (force 6 is equivalent to a waterfall) and tried to teach us how to stay on the board and control the direction that we wished to travel. I can say the teaching was pointless as I couldn't control anything what so ever, and was left completely to the will of the river. Was under the water and drinking it almost as long as I was able to breath air. It was really really good fun. Afterwards they took us to the hot pools to get warmed up in the spas, while they cooked us a barbecue.
After I got back to the hostel a crowd of people were going out and invited me to join them, so away I went again, into the town to a few bars and clubs, it was a mad night out, didn't get back in to about 4.00. This wasn't the wisest thing to do, as I had booked myself to go snowboarding at 7 the next morning.
Went up the 'Remarkables' mountains and spent the entire day up there doing 2 lessons and just having fun. Snowboarding is far more fun than skiing. I started by only being able to go really fast in a straight line (didn't know how to stop so went through a lot of pain finding out). After I'd got my lessons I began to get the hang of it, and by the end of the day I could turn and stop (well at least some of the time when I wanted to). It was very cold, and the snow blowing in your face felt like someone rubbing a sheet of sandpaper against it but I'd defiantly do it again.
Next stop Wanaka.
