So I decided to get a quick entry in, while we have free wifi at Palm Cove.
We left the scenic Archer point and headed towards the Bloomfield track, we drove past Black mountain, which is really quite unusual. Drove on to the Lions Den Hotel, first stop, we got out and the owner was just opening up the museum, a strange collection, from snakes in jars to large Chinese fans.
The owner just realised that one of his snakes had been stolen, you just can't believe some people , he says so many things get pinched. There was the most unusual orchid I have seen, a crazy blue green colour.
Onto the Bloomfield track, Joneso has done this drive many times but not towing anything. Some of the steep grades are incredible, and even in low range, you feel as though if the momentum ceases you will just start rolling backwards. Quite stressful for the driver, he thinks he earned his beers for the day. It is a spectacular drive, lush rainforest with fan Palms and strangler vines. The road eventually pops out at the coast with sudden glimpses of the water and lots of up and down steep grades.( Donovan Ranges).
We stopped at Thornton beach, beautiful white sandy beach, lined with palms.
On to Cape Tribulation and then to the ferry crossing.
We travelled on to Newell beach and a funny little caravan park that backed onto the cane fields and had the beach out the front. We ended up meeting another family that are using the same school (Distance Ed) which meant Spencer had friends. So it was the pool or the bikes or cards. The pool was the perfect temperature, just so lovely........ Spencer wouldn't go in until I had got rid of the crab, that must have fallen in.
In to Port Douglas, lovely houses and gardens up around the lookout. Took a wander up the Main Street and had an ice cream. It is a walk down memory lane for Jonah, as he lived here for a while. On the way back through Mossman, we decided to take a dip in the gorge...... But it has all changed and there are barriers up. It is either a 4 km walk or you have to pay $10 for the shuttle bus........ It was all a little forced, so we decided to go back to the pool. Not like the old days of parking under a tree and jumping in.
The trees in the caravan park were very unusual, crazy looking pods that yield an even crazier looking flower, I will put a photo of it in an album.
Off and did the picturesque drive down the coast to Palm Cove, with Jonah telling us he used to swim at Ellis beach, he now wouldn't swim anywhere here except in a pool. The woman at reception showed a picture of the croc just out the front at Palm Cove 2 days ago, not that far out.
We have just come back from a big feed at the Surf club, we call it a food Coma.
