Ola everybody…Ola Dr Nick…
So after a fraught start with me thinking we had loads of time to get to the bus station, it ended up with us running like maniacs through rush hour buenos aires, and asking locals for directions, we made the bus with 2 mins to spare
The thought of sitting on a bus for 16 hours didn`t fill us with joy but we had been advised they are not normal busses, and they were correct! We were given dinner in our seats with wine, while we watched 2 brand new films in English, Jac slept!, and then with the seats at almost horizontally reclined, we settled in for a great nights sleep! All was going well, until we realized that Jac`s wallet and phone had been pinched by some thieving person in Buenos Aires. Thankfully after a few tense text messages to the folks back home, everything had been cancelled. Welcome to South America!
Anyway, feeling a little low we arrived in Puerto Iguazu, and after finding the hostel, the Puerto Canoas, we had a quick shower we nabbed a couple of empanadas and jumped a bus to the falls...any low feelings were quickly overcome!
I rail roaded Jac into taking a speedboat through the rapids, and getting up close and personal with the falls, where after a brief jungle tour upon an army surplus truck, we donned our life jackets and we were off! They took us up river, through rapids and right under the falls, and when we say we got wet, thats a big understatement!
We were drenched and squealing...well jac was! After the boat we walked the low level trail, and then hopped on a train to the Devils Throat. I thought this name was a little over dramatic, but after seeing it, it is completely justified! It was amazing to stand right at the top of these huge falls, and hear and see the sheer power, truly breath taking. The walk back to the train was briefly interrupted by noticing an aligator in the water catching some rays! The no swimming signs means a lot more now!
We made our way back to the Hostel in town riding the Iguazu high, when no sooner after stepping off the bus, did we quite literally bump into Ms Broome! It took her awhile to register us, even though we were waving and shouting, but finally she came out of her bubble! We met her friends, Jane, Jamie and Sam, and decided it was as good a time as any to go for dinner and drinks!
So here we are now, just about to have breakfast and make our way to the airport for our flight to Rio. Here`s hoping that there are no last calls for Nirk to board...
