Mark & Den's Travels
22nd - 30th April
Newtown 1770 is where it all starts this week, Captain Cook landed here in 1770 but forgot to name it so it stayed un named for several years and then named 1770, Very little town with not much happening here, SO we take the BULL by the horns and go visit our first RODEO!! with free camping thrown in mmh that doesnt happen often, We arrive in plenty of time to see all the preparations happening. We are already out staging the prize Bull " Hey do you know they are English" we heard banded around the locals.
The event kicks off with kids and ladies doing some barrell racing which involved getting their healthy horses around the barrels quickest time wins, Joking aside some good prize money up for grabs. Next is what we having been waiting a few hours for the Rodeo kicks off with different levels of expertise of the rider and the Bull.
They try and stay on their steed for at least 8 seconds to qualify for the next event. Some bulls gave up earlier than that knowing if they got rid of their passenger they could have an early afternoon in the paddock,Some wanted blood of the human kind!! then on came the horses to outstage the bulls they were even quicker at throwing their passengers, who's the cleverest eh?? 3/4hrs brilliant entertainment.Out went the Bulls and in came the local band now we thought this would be a bit hill billyish but actually they were very good and we partyed til late.. Brilliant Experience and great crowd some days the impusle is better than the organised.
Rockhampton- Yeppoon We just nicely travelled through Rockhapton bit towny for us found a lovely site at Yeppoon for the night. off out to investigate local area we find a lovely picnic area with loads of people grazing on a Sunday afternoon (like they tend to do out here) We stummbled across a little shack with boat hire and fishing rods mmh back to the car for some sunscreen and a few tinnies to keep us going through a hot afternoon. We are steaming out on the Causeway Lake cut the engine and dangled our ends, pulled a few tops and waited for the fish to be kind enough to jump onto our hooks Mark was lucky he caught a bream 1.5lb maybe see photo to answer the question. Me I got a few nibbles but not quick enough to react, well would you lazing around on a boat in the sunshine nobody said I had to do anything for my Supper!!
Airlie Beach - WhitSundays on New Horizons
