Mark & Den's Travels
21st-25th June We start with the journey from HELL!! well not really it was hard, worse once over the border. We are hearded into small bus with NO air conditioning only to travel 152km mmh not bad but the road was awful as many potholes as there was clay. heavy traffic going always better stick myself into a book and dont worry about any of it. Our choice I hear you say and Yes it was we wanted the experience and BOY we got it!!
It gets better after 13hrs travelling we are welcomed into our backpackers by Thun and his family. lovely people our bond grew with them day by day. We used ther boys for local transport 2 125cc that couldnt go any faster than the roads would allow them.
First morning we are up at 04:00 (holiday no not here). we are off to see the Sunrise at Angkor Wat, (see cover picture.)
Wow!! as we approach the Wat from Siem Reap you can see it on the horizon, as we approach it looks eary like there are a thousand oga's hiding in there. As the Sun rose so did the crowds but it didnt deter us from the moment. It was wonderful. Once inside it takes your breath away to think this was built in 792AD. We found carving all over the walls some indicationg a war with spears and chariots Horses & Elephants Who were these people??? Should have been the 8th wonder of the world.. The day continued with just as many amazing temples. Bayon Temple, Elephant Temple Ta Keo,and lastly Ta Prohm. For me the best after Angkor Wat was the Bayon Temple many faces 572 actually carved into the walls and towers, some had been defaced by different religions many years after.. Ta Prohm was the most popular with the tourist. Raiders of the lost Ark was filmed here, There are many roots of 400yr old trees springing out of the walls, growing out of the tower roofs. unfortunatley too busy to enjoy properly. Second Day Not tombed out Yet we are off to Kbal Spean here we have some walking to do 1.5km not far up to find a river which has carving of 1,000 Lingas carved into the riverbed. We find them just in time as the heavans opened and down came the rain we take shelter for an hour the storms here are amazing. We are fed up with wating so we off to find more Ingas because most are under water now we find many carving along the river and caves but no more Lingas. off to Preah Neak Pean Citadel for women. We must look prietty strange we are soaked to the skin and covered in mud!! It hasnt been raining here all day mmh!! Next stop Eastern Mebon protected by 4 stone Elephants chained to the temple and finally Preah Khan The temple of the Sacred Sword this was the only temple to share religions of Budha and Hindu.
Templed Out we are off to Battenbang via river supposedly 6hr trip mmh we wait and see.......
