We headed for a usual breakfast, only to be disappointed as it was someone different serving and they didn’t make it as nice!! We had a mooch about the shops in search of random things before heading over to pick up the car. We’ve got a light blue Hyundai Getz, we’ve named her Holly! She’s cute! We then popped back and picked our bags up before making our way along the Captain Cook Highway stopping at various beaches along the way such as Machans beach, Holloway and Yorkeys Knob.
We also visited a small village called Kuranda which was in Barron National Park. It was a traditional Australian village with small wooden huts and shops. We had a spot of lunch in a café and admired the campervans in the car park, wishing we had ours! From here we went in search of the Barron waterfalls. They weren’t far from the village and were in the rainforest. We followed the trail through the rainforest to some of the look outs and admired the coolness of the rainforest and the scenic train which passes through. We also saw some odd turkey like animals which were very friendly!
From here we started to make our way to Port Douglas, where we are spending 2nights. We stopped to see what Palm Cove was like, very beautiful, before following the highway along the coast. We had some amazing views along the way and stopped a few times to admire them further. There were many beaches which looked untouched and remote.
Once in Port Douglas we checked in and went in search of the beach! We found a tiny one and sat and watched some of the boats going out. Port Douglas is a small town and is home to a 4 mile beach! We found a nice pub for dinner where they had sport on tv for Mark, while I watched live Toad racing! Very bizarre but amusing!
An early night as we’re tired, planning for a beach day tomorrow!
