We were up super early this morning to get tickets to go up the Petronas towers and across the bridge that links them! They only give away so many free tickets each morning and people queue from as early as 6am for them! We tried getting up yesterday for them but failed miserably so this was our only chance! We set off while it was still dark yet it was so humid, and considering it was quite early there were lots of people around, and selling food already! It was about a 20min walk there and people were arriving for work even though it was 7.40am! We got in the queue which was already quite big, but they still let lots of people in behind us so we knew that we were in with a good chance! At 8.30am they opened the doors and we were allocated a time to go up the towers! We got 11.30am which meant that we had time for a nice breakfast! There were lots of people who were waiting around in hope of getting tickets, even though they were being told that they had all gone!
We went for breakfast in a coffee shop in the shopping mall attached to the towers and sat reading the paper while drinking coffee, very civilised!
We had a mooch about the shops again to kill some time before heading back to go up to the bridge. We watched a short 3D film first about Petronas and what they do and how the twin towers were built before heading up in the lift to the 41st floor and stepped out onto the bridge! I imagined it to be open air, even though I had seen it from outside it still hadn't clicked, but it was enclosed which made it much easier to endure! The views across the city were brilliant and it was similar to Singapore in that there were many high rise buildings as far out as the eye could see. Most of them seem to be accommodation and in groups together. We didn't get the full 360' view because of the towers but what we could see was impressive!
From the bridge we could see a park area below the towers so we decided to go and explore! The sun had come out so it was jolly hot out but the walk through the park was lovely and first bit of green that we have seen since arriving! We made our way back towards where we are staying, Bukit Bintang, and discovered numerous shopping centres along the way! We have become to rely on them for their air conditioning as the heat can become unbearable at times! This centre had many of the shops from home, e.g. Topshop, Dorothy Perkins etc!
We found our way back to the hostel and decided to chill for a bit to cool down. We had a session on the internet where we discovered that our flight has changed times tomorrow, for the better! We no longer have to get up at 3am! WOOOHOOO!
We then went on an errand to the post office for the guys at the hostel, and ourselves, and had a mooch about the area again. By just walking around the streets, often the same ones, you see so much and its always different, but still very busy! We went back to a restaurant that we visited on the first day and had another yummy meal! Was very similar to the Chinese that we have from Marks house!
We spent the evening wandering around taking it all in, stopping for smoothies and ice cream on the way! I am going to end up looking like an Elephant if we keep eating the way we are, but its so cheap and nice to treat ourselves after being so strict about money in NZ and OZ! It was then back to pack our bags again ready to go to Vietnam tomorrow!
