Road trip!
We had a fun 24 hours or so in Veliko Tarnovo, and would have enjoyed staying more, but as we mentioned earlier, we were able to get a free ride up through the Romanian border to the capitol of Bucharest. We shared a room with Nicole, and she was so sweet and hospitable!
Once we arrived in Bucharest, she organized for us to stay at Green Frog Hostel, near the center of town. We dropped Jeff off at his hotel after, then went downtown to have some dinner together as a group.
We went to a great restaurant, if a little touristy. The interior looked just like an old train station/bank/church combination, and the food was fit for a king. Kenny had the Lord's Supper, and I had the sauerkraut with spicy sausage- we could barely eat it all!
Since Kenny and Jeff are both Pat's fans, Nicole was helpful in finding a sports bar where they could watch the game. It was an old building, originally used as a brothell, pub, hotel, etc, and had quite a history described in the menu. Unfortunately, the boys never got to watch their game, they didn't have the right channel and the timing didn't work out. Instead, they settled for the Vikings/Panthers game. I guess a bad game is better than none!
By the end of the evening, all four of us were exhausted after the trip, so after Nicole gave us her copy of Lonely Planet-Romania, we called it a night. Having a local show us around really left a great taste in our mouth, and Kenny and I are looking forward to doing some couch surfing or something similar sometime during the rest of our travels.
