Sorry for the lack of updates recently! This one is also going to be short, as computer access is a bit limited at the moment.
After we spent nearly 2 weeks total in Romania, we headed south from Timisoara Romania to Belgrade Serbia. We'd heard from a few other travelers that Belgrade was the place to be. I was concerned about crossing the border and leaving the EU, we'd heard that it could take up to 3 hours at the border! Luckily, our direct train made it across with no problems in no more than 30 minutes.
Belgrade was our first city in Serbia, and looked like many other places that we'd seen so far combined together. However, the prices were a bit to high for us to really enjoy ourselves! We spent most of our time walking around the city and cooking for ouselves at the hostel- greek salads, garlic bread, and pasta with homemade sauce. Once we'd sucessfully changed over our remaining Romanian money at a travel agency, we headed out.
Our second stop was Novi Sad, which was similar to Belgrade in looks, but less expensive. We'd originally planned to spend the night there, but got all our sightseeing done quickly, so we headed up to the border town of Subotica that same evening.
Subotica failed to impress us. We spent literally 3 hours looking for a hostel/hotel and were tired, sore, and grumpy once we finally stumbled upon the Gat hotel at 9 pm. I was exhausted, and fell asleep almost immediately!
However, we had an early morning train to catch the next day at 7 with no alarm clock so we slept lightly. We then took a small hopper train over the border to Szeged, Hungary, and we both sighed with big relief to be back in the EU!
It was fun going to Serbia, but looking back on the time/money we spent, we probably would have had more fun just staying in Hungary! More from Pecs, Hungary soon!
