Just before I go on a rant about today must let you know about the great time we had last night at the Night Market here in Hua Hin.
We had read about it and decided to take a walk up to see what it was all about, on the way I must have been asked to buy about 20 suits from all the tailors on the street which was entertaining to start with. I found that a polite no was not enough and we just kept on walking!!!!
The night market is just lots of stalls selling handicrafts and food but has a real buzz about it. After a browse around we took the plunge and ended up bartering with the stallholders to get a good price on a couple of things. It was all good humoured and the trick is not to get aggresive and stay good natured about the whole thing. The stuff is cheap to start with and you can catch yourself haggling over 5p!!!!
Anyway all the bartering made us hungry and we found a great restaurant, you ordered and the chefs cooked it right in front of you in the woks the tiger prawns were like lobsters!!!
Mel ordered veggie tempura and ended up with prawns which were delicious and I had deep fried sea bass in indian curry (you got the full fish head and tail included!!!!)
It was a feast and we were delighted when we got a bill for 7 quid and we had 2 beers each as well!!!
We tried to dodge the tailors on the way back but they managed to spot us and we ran the gauntlet again, the suits are amazing and good value at 35 quid but a little hard to carry in a rucksack.
Today turned into a bit of a doing day, we originally went to the mall to get a sim card for the mobile which we did eventually. But the big bonus was we found a Tesco, yes folks Tesco has completed it's world domination!!!
We found our malaria tablets there and they were 4 times cheaper than at Boots so we bought all 250 of them for only 10 quid!!!!
Mel was especially pleased because they sold wine as well and she couldn't resist a bottle of Chardonnay. As we were on a roll next stop was the Bus Station to try and get some bus tickets to Bangkok but you can only book 1 day in advance so we were told to come back tomorrow. In Thailand you have to get used to the quirky systems that they have it's either tomorrow or go to the next window or if you are lucky and get on buses you get stickers stuck on you every 5 minutes, all different colours and shapes depending on where you are wanting to end up!!!!
After a late lunch we took a 10 minute walk to the beach for a look around, Mel's 6th sense kicked in and she spotted a jellyfish from about 200 metres away!!!!
We had a walk along the beach but will be returning tomorrow for a good lie around and a rest. We both don't seem to be going brown although it could be the factor 50 sun block that might not be helping!!!!
One thing that we have noticed since arriving at Hua Hin is the amount of Western men there are knocking around with young Thai ladies, now we aren't saying there is anything going on but they are all 45 to 60 and it just seems to be looked upon as normal here. Martin old bean a few hundred quid out here and you are sorted chief, get on the next plane out here!!!!
Tonight we are visiting the other night market that they have and hopefully it will be as good an experience as yesterday, will report back tomorrow.
Lots of Love
M & M
