Well you lucky people get 2 entries on the blog today. We had a really lazy morning catching up on jobs and eating.
At 1.30pm our Tuk Tuk driver Mr Noi collected us for our sight seeing extravaganza around Ayutthaya, he has the shiniest Tuk Tuk in town and is so friendly. He took us out of the inner city island and over to Wat Yai Chai Mongkon to see the reclining Buddha and temple remains. The weather today has been so humid that we felt like sponges walking around even the Thai people were struggling with the heat today!!!!
After a walk up the temple steps and a refreshment break we were glad to collapse in the shiny red tuk tuk to be taken to our next stop which was Wat Pra Mahathat or as I like to call it Buddha head with tree roots growing around it. Here I got told off for standing up instead of kneeling as you can't be higher than a Buddha.
It was back on the tuk tuk to Wat Chai watharayam which was built to commemorate the victory over the Burmese and to rub it in they built it in Khmer style. I braved the walk up the steps and they were steep but the views from the top made it worth the effort, Mel and Christina rested at the bottom!!!!!
We visited the biggest seated Buddha in Thailand next and the old Kings Palace or what was left of it as when the Burmese invaded they knocked all the heads off all the Buddha icons so there are many headless Buddhas in Ayutthaya!!!!!
Our last stop of the day was the most interactive and so much fun, we got to visit the elephants and there were 2 babies there both 1 month old but still quite big. They charged around and banged into people just enjoying themselves. We had a kept up to our sunscreen today or we could have ended up as red as our tuk tuk.
Topped off the day with some food at one of the restaurants in town before walking back to relax in our tranquil surroundings and watching the fireworks.
Lots of Love
M & M
