G'Day Sports
Today we have been further North to Cape Tribulation and back. As usual our tour started bright and early and off we drove up the Cook Highway (named after James Cook, the explorer) to our first stop of the day which was a beautiful piece of rainforest at Mossman Gorge. We took a brisk 30 minute walk under the canopy and across a suspension bridge to complete the circuit. Australian rainforest covers only 0.1% of the continent so is very special.
We then headed further north to the Daintree animal sanctuary to look at various Australian animals, we had seen most before but learnt a few interesting things and Mel got to hold an 11 month old Eastern Grey Kangaroo and me a baby Rufus Betong (like a wallaby)
It was then time to cross the river by cable ferry to continue our push North. We made a couple of stops at lookouts before having lunch on Cape Trib beach (named by James Cook after he grounded his boat on a reef here and was said to be having trials and tribulation, hence cape trib) and I even had time for a swim and saw a lovely stingray in the sea, which was as warm as a bath!!!!
Unfortunately this was as far North as we could go and had to turn around and head back to the river for a boat trip to try and spot some crocs in the water. We did see one small baby but no biggies but we did see a green tree snake in the water and an Amethyst Python asleep in a tree, so pretty good going really!!!!
Once again time had got the better of us and we just had enough time to visit Port Douglas for a quick look around before heading back to Cairns for 7pm.
Tomorrow is the Kuranda railway, roll on Thursday.
