Hello from Kuala Lumpur or KL as it is known by just about everybody round here.
Our last 2 days have been pretty hectic so let me run through them with you and let you know what we have been up to. Yesterday we left Malacca on the bus and it was a 2 hour journey into KL this cost us a whopping 1 pound 20p each!!!!
We were dropped at the PuduRaya Bus Terminal and there were people everywhere offering taxi rides and bumping into each other it was pretty manic and a little tricky to manouveure with a big rucksack on.The walk from the bus terminal took about 15 minutes but it was very humid and we were ready for a cold bottle of water when we arrived at our hostel. The place we are staying is the Pujangga Homestay and this is our home for the next 5 nights as we have had to stay longer to sort out our Thai visa as we now need a double entry visa which we are sorting out on Monday hopefully.
The place is clean and tidy and basic but adequate for us and only RM70/10 pounds a night!!!
KL has a big communication Tower called the Menara and it is the 4th tallest in the world as you know we can't resist a tall building so this was our stop yesterday afternoon. It is 421 metres high and from the observation deck at 288 metres you could see how big the city is and how spread out it is. By the time we had finished up the tower it was getting late so we took off back to the hostel. Mel was desperate to do the laundry but had to relinquish power to the hostel who did it for her, it was a tense few hours but we came out the other side!!!!
Today has been hot and humid again and we decided to take the Monorail and go down to the Petronas Towers. They look magnificent and are 451.9 metres tall and are the tallest freestanding structure in the world. Unfortunately you have to queue for a free ticket from 8am and they had all gone so we could not go up today. Although you can only go up as far as the skybridge and the view is not supposed to be too good.
Had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe and picked up another badge for the collection then took the LRT down to the Colonial District to see Merdaka Square. This is the area where the British Flag was taken down and the Malaysian Flag raised on August 31st 1957 when the Malay people gained independence. There is also the lovely Moorish building of Sultan Abdul Samad.
It was a short walk to our next stop the Central Market it is an indoor air conditioned market(i call it heaven!!!)where they sell all sorts of crafts and is a good place to snag a bargain or a fancy cake!!!!
Decided to ride the LRT and Monorail back to the hostel and have a rest for an hour or so as we have clocked up a few places today.
I think it will be Lebanese for dinner tonight so will report back tomorrow with more stories for you.
Lots of Love
M & M
