Day 112 - Bangkok
As we have a big day today we have to wake up to an alarm again but it's fairly painless and we're soon checking out and eating brekky/dinner.
We leave the bags at the hotel and go for a wonder around Bangkok. we read about a cheap IT mall so went to check it out in the hope of finding a cheap Macbook, they are cheaper than home however they work out about the same price as back home with the student discount.
We decided to hop on the subway and get off at Sukhumvit station. Sukhumvit is a huge road that goes from Thailand all the way to Cambodia but the bit we were intrested in was the bit in the centre where the markets are. There's lots of designer gear for sale, tshirts starting at 100b (£2) and nice looking jeans for about £5 amongst all the usual D&G, CK, LV handbags.
After a stop in at a pub called the penalty spot we browsed and grabbed some bargains and as everything was closing we jumped back on the subway home to grab the bags and walk across the road to the station.
The station is really busy, lots of local people lying all over the floor some snoring their heads off but we are soon on the train in our 1st class private room and nice and settled. The guy comes round and takes our breakfast order and we get comfy, then the guy that makes the beds comes round and sets ours up .. everything is going smoothly.
About half hour after we realise our train has been stopping a lot and waiting for about 20 minutes at a time so figure somethings not right. We hear a guard in the corridor telling somebody else that the train isn't going to make it to Chiang Mai, Rhona sticks her head out and asks the guard and he says "Train cannot go Chiang Mai, Track is broken, we go back to Bangkok!" ... Great 2 hours on a train and then we have to turn round and go 2 hours back! By this point it was about 11:30pm but luckily the hotel we stayed at across the road from the station gave me their business card so a quick call to them and we managed to book a bed for the night!
Anyways we eventually arrive back in Bangkok and grab our refund for our ticket and try to exit the station, i say try to exit as every door had padlocks on it and there is people asleep all over the floor?! We figure a way out via the train tracks and head back to the hotel and check in. We are on the 5th floor and this place doesn't have a lift :( our bags are extra heavy due to us being tired but we soldier on and are soon in the air con again ahhh thats better.
We decide that taking another train is to risky as the track may not be fixed so we book a flight .. only costs about an extra £60 on top of what the train tickets cost so not too bad and it takes an hour instead of about 12.
This means Rhona still gets to look after and ride her elephant and we get to see the North of Thailand. Rhona said she wasn't going home until she's rode her elephants so we kinda had to go really!
