Day 113 - Bangkok - Chiang Mai
After last nights events we look on the bright side that we got a nice lie in and got to sleep in a proper bed and have to get ready to go and get our flight to Chiang Mai (hopefully we'll get there this time).
Not much packing was needed so we relaxed in the room until it was time to check out and then sat in the hotel restaurant for some grub and a few coffee's to pass some time until we had to make our way to the airport.
We had look on line for a place to stay when we return to Bangkok but we struggled to find anywhere that was cheaper, had a better location or had better reviews than the place we had stayed this time so we booked our last few nights of the trip with them and got it quite a bit cheaper than what its listed as on hostelbookers bonus!
Si in his sleep deprived state last night had done his research and found the best and cheapest way for us to get to the airport, we get the MRT for a few stops and then walk around to the newly opened skytrain which takes you to the airport and only cost us 30baht for both of us (about 60p) and considering the distance covered definately a bargain.
We arrive at the airport and there is only 1 terminal building for both international and domestic they are just divided when you go through security, we've booked with Bangkok Airways and even though we havent paid any extra or flying business class we get to use the lounge for free which has free wifi and snacks. By the time we'd checked in and found the lounge we were starving and had about 3 plate fulls each of the free snacks that were on offer (tuna sandwiches, rice cakes, sweet rice etc) and continued to gorge ourselves until our flight was called.
The flight was very straight forward, left and arrived on time and Si was very happy to get sat at the emergency exits so he got extra leg room (I could stretch my legs right out without touching the seat in front) so a very comfy flight for both of us, think he's going to ask for the emergency exit seat on the flight home if there's one free.
Anyway an hour and a bit later we arrive in Chiang Mai, quite a small airport but as with all domestic flights no messing about with immigration we just got our bags and jumped in a taxi to our hostel.
Si had read online that one of the women that runs the hostel (Stella) is quite mental and that as soon as you meet her you know its her without her even introducing herself ... well they were right she is bonkers but so friendly. We went for some drinks in the restaurant and she came over talking to us and brought us lots of books on tours etc to do while in Chiang Mai. She even went through some of them with us and by the time we'd had our drinks we'd booked stuff to do for everyday and because we booked it through the hostel we ended up paying less than the internat prices :)
A few more drinks later and we called it a night as we have to be up early in the morning to go to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple and to Tiger Kingdom.
