We awoke early this morning as we had to be at the bus station for 9.30. After having a good breakfast at the hostel we checked out and hailed a taxi to the bus station. This was not without incident as I tried to tell the bus driver where we wanted to go in my best Geordie. Unfortunately, he could not decipher my accent and Beth had to step in with her slightly posher Geordie before he understood. After making it through the ridiculous Lima traffic (we are not sure how anyone can drive here) we caught the bus to Ica which was to be a relatively short four and a half hour journey. The journey passed without incident with the exception of a film about abortion being played. This was fairly graphic and definitely not relaxing so I tried my best to listen to some podcasts and stared out of the window whilst shielding my eyes from the offensive material.
We made it to Ica for about half 2 and got a taxi for the short ride to Huacachina which took about 5 minutes. We checked into our hostel and to be honest the first impressions weren't the greatest. The room didn't have the greatest smell and the cleanliness wasn't the best. The bathroom is absolutely tiny and the workmen outside didn't stop doing works on the road until about half 6. All in all, we are happy we are only here for a couple of days. Huacachina itself seems pretty nice. It's very small but there are quite a few bars and restaurants. There is a lagoon which is nice and it's surrounded by huge sand dunes which look amazing. Tomorrow, we will have a blast at sand boarding which I am predicting we will both be rubbish at!!
So tonight, we have been out for a decent meal with a couple of drinks before coming back to the hostel bar for a drink. One of the waiters in the bar took a particular liking to me and i had more cuddles off him in half an hour than I've had off Beth all trip!! I particularly liked how he decided to call me Mil even though I wrote my name on the bill for him. The cuddles got a bit much so the tip was slightly lacking! On the way back from the bar, Beth somehow managed to trip on a paving slab and fall in the slowest of slow motion to the ground. I was of course sympathetic until I knew she was fine then I was hysterical with laughter. It's one of the funniest things I have seen so far on the trip. Anyway, we are in bed at half 9, both in our sleeping bags as we don't really fancy the standard of hygiene here. I think this is the first time we have not been happy with how clean a hostel has been which isn't really bad eleven and a half weeks into the trip.
