So today (Saturday) we have arrived in Mendoza which is in the wine making region of Argentina. We travelled here by bus from Buenos Aires which took about 14 hours. This sounds pretty bad but the buses over here are good and quite comfortable so the time tends to go a bit quicker than you would imagine. This is especially true for Beth as she again slept for about 90% of the journey!! We were expecting Mendoza to be a bit warmer than Buenos Aries (there wasn't much logic behind this as Mendoza lies next to the Andes), however, we knew this would not be the case when we stopped around 4 hours from Mendoza and it was snowing. I left Beth asleep for this part as I knew it would be my fault as I had promised slightly better weather.
Our new hostel seems really nice and we are in a private room again rather than back to the dorms. It's basically a huge house which has been changed into about 11 private rooms with communal kitchens an bathrooms. It's about a 20 minute walk into the centre of Mendoza and almost everything seems within walking distance.
Tonight, we were told by the guy on the reception in the hostel that there was a festival taking place in the main plaza. We decided to go and check it out as it was completely free. I enjoyed this part. It was canny good with tango dancers, "floppy dancers" as Beth called them and a band on. There were stalls selling food and drink as well as stalls giving free wine samples which Beth duly abused. However, it was pretty chilly and at about 10 we gave up and headed back to the promise of warmth in the hostel.
There are hopefully a couple of trips we plan to do whilst we are in Mendoza including a trip into the Andes and a bicycle tour of some of the local vineyards. This should make for some hopefully interesting photos over the next few days.
Beth's away back to sleep as she has only had about 15 hours in the last 24. It must be tiring this travelling business!!
