Today we are travelling through Alabama and on to Tennessee. Shame I didn't get a photo but crossing from Louisiana to Alabama is a huge sign "Sweet Home Alabama". Would have been good to get a shot next to it. Reading articles about Alabama we worked out there was another NASA site about 40k off the main interstate. It is the Marshall Space Flight Centre located in Huntsville Alabama. We decided to head off the highway and have a visit. The difference with this site is it is the only place that has the space shuttle (test replica) set up with launch rockets and booster tank. It was great having a look at all the different rockets and missiles including launchers. Walking in there is a SR-71 Blackbird sitting out the front, a very impressive aircraft. On a side note I have recently reconnected with a US friend I met in 1986 while detached on an expedition in Aus. I thought he was living in Iowa. I posted on Facebook about Huntsville. When I arrived in Nashville I received a Facebook message from Ritchie and Jayne informing me they live in Huntsville. b*****, on a tight timeframe. We will be back, shame though. After a quick look around we hit the road to Nashville. We crossed into Tennessee and very soon saw signs suggesting a visit to the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg Tennessee. We didn't have time but interestingly enough we discovered that even if you did visit the distillery you cannot purchase any alcohol as it is located in a dry county. They can make it but not sell locally, go figure. Looking at accom in Nashville, bloody expensive in the City, over $250 US per night. We found a spot out a bit near a big shopping mall for much cheaper, worked out it was right next to the "Grand Old Opry", a very famous music venue in Nashville, There was also a great selection of bars and live music
