In the car and driving to Virginia City. Uphill again, not quite as high as Donners Pass. I. Believe it peaked at 6789ft, Virginia City is about 6600ft. It is very similar to as it was in the late 1800's.
Not as touristy as Tombstone Arizona but the same atmosphere and stories. We took the small train ride on the V and T railroad. I was looking forward to a steam train ride but it was out of action and I had to settle for an old diesel engine ride. It was interesting though listening to the history or the town and how much gold and silver was mined here. In it's prime there were 109 saloons in the town. a few of the originals are still standing. this. Went into a leather shop ( you will love this Iain), one wall covered with cowboy boots for sale. The roof covered with cowboy hats. You can even buy the stirrups. Tours finished we jump in the car and head the 16 miles to Carson City, passing Gold Town and Silver City. gold Town now has a population of 60 but in it's prime had 18000. Very disappointed with Carson City. I sort of expected similar to Virginia City bu n a larger scale. As it is now the Capital of Nevada it seems to be just another City. We head back to Reno and find a lot of the roads to our Casino are closed, took ages to get back. They have an event in august called Hot August Nights and it is staring now. It is Drag racing and Hot Rod exhibitions. The amount of great looking hot rods around here at the moment is spectacular. I believe they have some sort of street display on tonight right outside our hotel
