Hit the road early as we had to cover 730k today. Interesting seeing the different road kill over here. I have not seen any big stuff like our Kangaroos but I am sure there are areas that would be covered with them. We mostly have seen, racoons, turtles and lots if armadillos. In fact mostly armadillos. Travelling towards Little Rock Arkansas there was a mangy coyote just off the road in the grass next to an overpass. He wasn't bothered with the cars crossing the roads. The amount of trucks on the road is mind boggling. On no part of this trip have I had a quiet road or seen no trucks. If you have a long stretch in front of you, all you can see are trucks. There are also a lot of 5th wheelers ( caravans hooked to the back of large pick up trucks like articulated vehicles). They use these for more than just caravans, I have seen car carriers hooked up to Dodge Rams as well. Doesn't seem to be any speed limiters on these trucks either. On most interstates they have a maximum limit but also a minimum. I think we could use that in Aus. Also in most states I have been in you can turn right on a red light after stopping (think turn left on red light in Aust ). You do not have to sit and wait when there is no traffic coming. The fuel stations annoy me, you have to pay for fuel before you fill up. For credit card in the bowser you have to put in your zip code for the billing address on your credit card (90210 does not work). You have to go in and prepay an estimated amount, fill up then get the receipt for the amount you fill up. The issue is if you use a travellers card like qantas cash, the amount you prepay stays pending for a month and the actual amount is taken, eg prepay $50, put $40 in you lose $90 from your travellers card for up to a month. The pending ones come back to you but it takes quite a while. Normal credit cards you wouldn't even notice it. We have about $900+ in pending that will probably drop off after we get home. Mind you love the travel cards especially if you are visiting a few countries. I digress, mainly because this trip is boring, think Canberra to Sydney 3 times. We passed around places like Little Rock Arkansas, Arkadelphia and Texarkana with a lot of nothing in between. We decided to stay near the airport in Dallas in a place called Grapevine, it has all of the expected hotels here, every one of them (over 6) booked solid, we ended up getting the last room in the Hyatt (not like the Australian Hyatt). They have a shuttle that will take us to the airport on Thurs as we are dropping the hire car off on Wednesday.
